For referring dentists and physicians

Refer a pediatric patient with special healthcare needs

I’m a board-certified pediatric dentist, and I welcome referrals for any child from birth to 18 — including, but not limited to, children with special healthcare needs. I see patients at three offices in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia.

Dr. Ankita Warkhankar, board-certified pediatric dentist for children with special healthcare needs.

Scope

Patients to send me

I treat all children from birth to 18, and my specialty is children with special healthcare needs, including care with nitrous oxide sedation.

  • Children with special healthcare needs

Children from birth to 18 with complex medical and developmental needs, including autism, who need cleanings or dental treatment. Our team is trained and equipped for this care.

  • Treatment with nitrous oxide sedation

Cleanings and treatment with nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for children who need help to relax. They stay awake throughout; it is not general anesthesia.

  • General anesthesia cases

I treat children in the office with nitrous oxide. For patients who need treatment under general anesthesia, I refer to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD).

  • Behavior guidance and dental anxiety

Children who find dental visits hard. I explain each step before it happens, and I give the visit the time it needs.

  • Pediatric dental care

Infant oral health exams, preventive care and cleanings, fillings and crowns, dental trauma and minor oral surgery, for any child from birth to 18.
